Flower photography makes my heart sing, and this one is sending my heart into singing some unknown opera! I love the contrasting focus! Did you have to edit this to get that vast range, or is this in-camera?
Oh, and THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for adding my piece to your favourites. As a new kid on the block (well, I've just finally started posting at least), I am tickled to see such a positive reaction to my painting.
I do not like to edit my photos in any "extreme" way (a bit old fashioned of me I know )although I did give a slight red/yellow tint to the photo as it was originally very green, and did not portray the image of age/death.
Your painting is wonderful. I had not read the reason why it was lost until now. I am someone who deals with depression and PTSD (and I have recovered from anorexia)...therefore the story saddens me. Please know that Jan saw something amazing in your art, which truly does express your true talent
No, no, believe me, I can appreciate the old fashioned ways. I was trained in a dark room, so I try to resist temptation to do a lot of editing. (Then, Instagram came around and I've hardly touched my DSLR in six months! lol Shame on me!) Anyway, WOW. That just makes this photo all the more beautiful!
Your words are very kind. At first, I didn't know how to react to what it meant for her to like my work after she died: I had people analyzing my piece for signs of her undiagnosed depression, as if buying my work proved that she was battling "inner demons" as they put it. Even though I study Psychology and know better than to place such poignancy on a single item, it still made me feel like I did something "wrong". So, thank you, quite sincerely, for your reflection. And thank you for your support!
You are most welcome...and perhaps you may find/study in psych that many people suffering depression/mental illness are highly intuitive to artist detail. This doesn't mean that the artwork represents any particular negative attributes, but simply expresses the passion and yearning these people have within them...whether this is the world they currently live in or the world and happiness that they wish to obtain
You know, that has briefly come across my desk once before. I didn't give it a second thought until now, so thank you. I am still so frustrated that people would try to make such a connection, because I was the lucky one that witnessed her face light up when she saw my piece. Her smile from that moment will always be in my memory.
If anyone wants to challenge your work again, ask them to look at my "Favourites" gallery. I have depression, yet I would say at least 80% of my "favourites" are happy, positively reflective or optimistic
Thank you! I can't stand the stereotypes of depression, especially that seem to dominate in my hometown: They are often very superficial! But, you're not alone in surrounding yourself with positivity! A pal of mine wrote an entire book on positive reflections after her diagnosis. There is great beauty in introspection!
